They might look familiar if you’ve ever skied in Aspen.
The medals were inspired by the Silver Queen Gondola, which takes riders 2.5 miles and 3,627 vertical feet.
I’ve always said that I wanted a medal or trophy modeled after a gondola. I got a trophy in the shape of a bee after I finished second place in the fifth-grade spelling bee, and it just wasn’t very cool. I’d feel like a mountainy, wintery version of Flavor Flav walking around with one of these things on. I’d feel emboldened to shout things like “Yeahhhhhh boyyyyy” at fellow skiers like this was 2006 and “Flavor of Love” was still on VH1.
The X Games begin Thursday. There are 18 events this year.
The winter X Games have been held in Aspen since 2002 and will remain there at least through 2019. You can check out the entire schedule here.
