Don't feel dumb if you can't tell the difference between Lambs Bread or Girl Scout Cookies marijuana strains. Science says the names don't tell you much anyway, reports FiveThirtyEight.
About 20 percent to 30 percent of the time, marijuana samples won’t be even remotely related to other samples sold under the same “variety” name, Phylos Bioscience told FiveThirtyEight. Which is similar to other results that researchers in Canada produced.
Even “sativa” and “indica” designations are "all just a big myth,” Mowgli Holmes, chief scientific officer of Phylos Bioscience told the publication.
Here's why:
"... because of both cross-breeding that muddies the distinction and simple mistaken identity. In one case, a variety called Jamaican Lambs Bread, which was supposed to be a sativa, was nearly genetically identical to a supposed indica variety from Afghanistan. Both the names of cannabis varieties and the indica/sativa division should be thought of as fungible marketing, not accurate biology."
Long story short: It's whatever man.
