People using AT&T cellular service in Denver, Lakewood and other cities around the country were unable to call 911 from their mobile phones for more than an hour on Wednesday night, according to police.
Customers in Denver and Lakewood were among those affected, but the problem was as far-flung as Chicopee, Massachusetts and Washington D.C. according to police there. Eagle County and Douglas County also were affected, according to The Denver Post.
People on AT&T in Denver and Lakewood still were able to text messages to 911. Others at least could call local numbers for emergency services, though that may not be as effective as 911 in an emergency. It's unclear how many people were affected locally and nationally.
AT&T issued an apology "to those who were affected." The Federal Communications Commision is investigating, according to chairman Ajit Pai.
Denver Police announced the outage through Twitter just before 7 p.m. on March 8. AT&T said at 8:15 p.m. that the issue was resolved.
