The Denver Nuggets finally reeled in a big fish.
Sunday night, the team reportedly agreed to a three-year, $90 million deal with power forward Paul Millsap, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.
Millsap, 32, should mesh well with the Nikola Jokic-led Nuggets and helps Denver keep pace in an increasingly competitive Western Conference.
Millsap averaged 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists and shot 44.2 percent from the field and 31.1 percent from 3-point land last season with the Atlanta Hawks. He is regarded as a solid all-around player on both ends.
Last season, the Nuggets ranked fifth in offensive efficiency and second-to-last in defensive efficiency. Bringing Millsap into the fold should allow Denver to continue playing its free-flowing, high-scoring brand of offense while also being better on the defensive end.
Millsap ranked 14th overall in ESPN's Real Plus-Minus statistic, which attempts to quantify a player's average impact in terms of net point differential, last season. Jokic ranked sixth overall.
Matt Moore of CBS reported that the Nuggets have a team option on the third year of Millsap's contract. That should allow Denver flexibility as it decides which members of its young core it will try to retain.
This was a big get for the Nuggets and could prove to be a significant step in getting back to the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
