Big 12 bigwigs are meeting in Dallas on Monday to discuss the possibility of adding teams to its conference.
When Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby and Oklahoma President David Borren hold a press conference at 5:30 p.m., we might know a little bit more about Colorado State's and the Air Force Academy's chances of getting in.
The Colorado schools are two of 11 vying for a bid to the Power Five conference. The others are: BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, Houston, Rice, SMU, South Florida and Tulane.
The Big 12 expressed interest this summer about adding two schools. But in true Big 12 fashion, some in the conference seemed to flip-flop about expansion:
So now, who knows? Maybe the Big 12 goes through with it. Maybe it doesn't. Either way, Colorado State's and Air Force's odds of getting in are long.
We'll know more this afternoon.
Update, 1:21 p.m. MT: We didn't even have to wait until the 5:30 p.m. press conference to find out the Big 12 won't add any teams.
The meeting didn't last very long.
It took a grand total of 14 minutes for a reporter to announce the meeting ended and another to break the news that no school was added. The Big 12 is leakier than a pirate ship that got hit by cannon balls, part 1,021.
