The Cherry Creek Shopping Center started testing its new parking system this month before it officially starts charging mall-goers next year.
Management at the Cherry Creek mall announced in July its plans to make customers pay to park. They said the change is meant to stop people from taking a parking spot if they're not actually planning to shop at the mall.
The Denver Business Journal reported Monday that Cherry Creek is on target to start charging customers in January after testing the parking system.
Cherry Creek has 5,000 spots within two parking garages and another 800 spaces in surface level lots. The first hour of parking for those spaces will be free and the daily max will be $16, according to the mall.
Those who stay for two hours will be charged $3 for parking. The mall will charge an additional dollar for hour three and an additional $2 each hour after that.
