Team USA hockey advanced to the gold-medal game of the World Junior Championships thanks in large part to University of Denver sophomore Troy Terry. The Highlands Ranch native went 3-for-3 in a shootout against Russia to help the Americans move on.
Terry scored his first shootout goal in the fourth round. The game went to a sudden-death shootout because Team USA and Russia were deadlocked after five rounds.
In the sixth round, Team USA called on him once again.
He scored his final goal of the shootout in the seventh round, going five-hole for a second time — only this one was backhanded.
Team USA won the shootout 4 goals to 3.
The Americans play the Canada-Sweden winner for the gold medal Thursday. The game is at 6 p.m. MT. You can watch it on NHL Network.
