Macy's plans to hold hiring events throughout the Denver metro area Saturday to staff up for the back-to-school and holiday shopping seasons.

The retailer is holding on-site interviews with job candidates between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday at its locations in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center and Northfield Stapleton in Denver. Candidates are encouraged to apply in advance at MacysJobs.com.

Macy's is also meeting with applicants in Littleton at Park Meadows, Southwest Plaza and Streets at SouthGlenn; in Westminster at The Orchard; and in Aurora at the Town Center at Aurora, according to a news release from the company.

Due to Colorado's low unemployment rate, retailers have struggled to staff up for the holiday shopping season — a major revenue generating period for stores. Some retailers have responded by hiring earlier.

Macy's is trying to fill hundreds of positions in Colorado, said Jenna Torluemke, a spokeswoman for the retailer. The exact number was not provided.
