Goldspot Brewing Co. is planning to raise money this month to help a struggling nearby craft brewery get its doors open in Berkeley.
The Grateful Gnome Sandwich Shoppe & Brewery has been forced to push back its opening due to construction-related issues including a scaffolding crash that sent wooden boards through the ceiling. Owner Daniel Appel told Denverite last month that he hoped to open at 4369 Stuart St. around the beginning of September.
Appel said Friday due to engineering work taking longer than he expected, "September as a whole is unlikely."
Goldspot plans to hold a fundraiser for Grateful Gnome on Aug. 30 at its taproom near the southeast corner of West 50th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard in the Regis neighborhood. The brewery plans to give $1 from every beer sold during the event to Grateful Gnome to help pay legal bills and get its doors open.
Pussy Riot beers, brewed to protest President Donald Trump's views and comments on women, will be excluded from the fundraiser.
"Our friends at The Grateful Gnome Sandwich Shoppe & Brewery have had some crummy things happen during their construction. We want to help them get those doors open ASAP! We want sandwiches and beer," Goldspot Brewing wrote on Facebook.
