The Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon is this weekend, folks, which means you should under almost no circumstances get in your car and try to drive somewhere in Denver.
Let's take a look at the traffic forecast.
Here's the map provided by organizers:
The blue line is the 10K, the magenta line is the 5K and the for-some-reason-green-and-blue line is the half marathon. The Xs mark street closures, in case you weren't sure whether or not you'd be able to drive where people are running in the street.
Here, I've made it more clear:
The half marathon and 10k will start at 7:15 a.m., and the 5K will start at 9 a.m.
According to the race website, most road closures and detours will be in effect from 6:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Pedestrians and cyclists should be able to cross the closed streets during gaps in the races. The streets will reopen on a rolling basis as the races end, beginning with streets early along the routes.
There will also be minor delays and re-routes for RTD bus lines near the races. To see if and how your bus will be affected, see the RTD's rider alerts for your line.
And while as always I suggest you Never Drive™️, this Sunday really is a good day to stay out of your car and maybe just stay home. There are plenty of things to be done in the comfort and road rage-free space of your home: Netflix and chill, HBO and chill if you're fancy, napping, daytime boozing, sports shouting — you get the idea. Enjoy it.
