Denver Police are looking for an adult man suspected of shooting two people experiencing homelessness along the South Platte River Trail.

The first killing took place on Sept. 6, at 12:25 a.m. on the trail under I-70, near E. 45th Ave. and N. Washington St. The police identified the victim as an adult female.

The second killing took place on Sept. 9, around 12:36 a.m. on the trail, near where it intersects with South Platte River Dr. and W. Florida Ave. The victim was an adult male.

"The preliminary findings from these homicide investigations lead detectives to believe the incidents may be connected, though we are unable to publicly provide the details supporting this theory in order to protect the integrity of both investigations," according to a release from Denver Police. "Additionally, the victims in both incidents are believed to have been unhoused."

Neither incident took place in or near an encampment, police said. Investigators are still piecing together information about the suspect, his description and the circumstances of the killings.

The Denver Police Department has not discovered any potentially related homicides along the South Platte River.

The killings took place as Mayor Mike Johnston works to fulfill his goal of housing 1,000 people living on the streets by the end of the year and ending homelessness within four years.

Denverites -- housed and unhoused alike -- have reported an escalation in threats, stalking and violence in recent weeks.

"Anyone with information is encouraged to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867," Denver Police wrote in a statement.
