Man dies during apartment fire in Denver’s Sunnyside neighborhood
One man died and three others were rescued early Wednesday during a fire in Denver’s Sunnyside neighborhood.
The man fell to his death while trying to escape the fire at 2970 W. Denver Place, Denver7 reports. His name has not yet been released and his cause of death has not been confirmed, Denver fire department spokeswoman Melissa Taylor said Wednesday.
Firefighters rescued the three other people from the roof of a nearby building. They were treated on scene for smoke inhalation, Taylor said.
The fire at the two-story apartment started at about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday. Flames damaged one unit, but there is smoke and water damage in other apartments.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The apartments where the fire occurred is attached to the Federal Theatre built in 1924. The building once housed a movie theater and now a Christian church.
