When the Underground Music Showcase announced its big move from Broadway to Five Points, it sounded like the legacy festival could take over the entire River North Art District.

Instead, the festival is concentrating its programming on a mile-long stretch of Larimer Street — which may be simpler for attendees and organizers alike.

A full district takeover may have required some sort of transportation fix to schlep people from one side of the train tracks to the other. That may happen in years to come, UMS head Keanen Stoner told Denverite. But for now, the festival will be more contained.

There will be two main stages in parking lots at 2420 Larimer St. and 3001 Larimer St.

Nine venues will host smaller acts:  Beacon, Bierstadt Lagerhaus, Campground, Finn's Manor, Improper City, Larimer Lounge, Matchbox, Ratio Beerworks and Two Moons.

Ten more venues that will host smaller events that have yet to be announced.

Another tidbit: Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and its signature venue, Mission Ballroom, will not be included in this year’s UMS. Conversations are ongoing, Stoner said, and festival organizers are open to that collaboration in the years to come.

The festival runs June 24-26. A full schedule will be announced later in June. Go to the Underground Music Showcase website

The festival is being put on by Two Parts and the River North Business Improvement District.
