Ranch Foods Direct issued a recall for 2,600 pounds of beef

3 min. read

A Colorado Springs beef company recalled close to 2,600 pounds of beef product due to possible E. coli contamination, the Department of Agriculture announced yesterday.

The contaminated beef was produced by Good Food Concepts LLC, a.k.a. Ranch Foods Direct, a company which sources beef from antibiotic- and hormone-free Callicrate cattle. It supplies beef products to restaurants in Colorado Springs, Denver, Pueblo and St. Francis, Kansas.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service was notified of a possible E. coli related illness on July 14 and, with the help of the Colorado Department of Health and Environment and the El Paso Health Department, linked the illness to ground beef products from Ranch Foods Direct. As of July 12, one Colorado resident has fallen ill with the bacteria.

The health department urges consumers to check their freezers for frozen beef and only consume beef that has been uniformly heated over 160 degrees fahrenheit. If a contaminated product is found, the beef should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
