So what happens when an simple old bar and restaurant gets bought by a vegan restauranteur?

Denver is going to find out.

Just a few days after it was announced that the Campus Lounge would close after 40 years, the Denver Post reported that Dan Landes bought the space.

A manager at City O' City confirmed today that Landes, owner of City O' City and Make, Believe Bakery, is indeed taking over the spot. Landes is also the founder and former owner of WaterCourse Foods.

Campus Lounge owner Jim Wiste said earlier this week that he decided to close the bar and restaurant on his own terms, and that the new owner of his old bar would remodel. It closes on Sunday.

Karen Morehead, 61, is a retired teacher. She was a bus girl there 10 years ago, for one year.

"I'm really sad, Jim Wiste is one of the best people you'll ever meet. You can come here by yourself, but you never feel alone," she said. "It's like the cheers of Bonnie Brae, everyone really does know your name!"

Morehead says she hopes the new owners will preserve the iconic sign.

No word yet on what exactly Landes will do with the Bonnie Brae spot.

In the meantime, try one of Denver's other vegan and vegetarian dining options.
