Hubert “Marty” Vanover, a former Denver police officer, faces a series of felony marijuana charges.
Back in 2011, when he was a police officer, Vanover was accused of false arrest by a woman who was gathering signatures for Amendment 64, which legalized marijuana in Colorado, by the Ogden Theatre. Vanover was working off-duty at the theater as a security guard. The woman spent the night in jail and in 2014 won $25,000 from the city, along with dismissal of all charges, the Denver Post reported.
Fast forward to today: Vanover, 53, faces several charges related to marijuana. A Denver police investigation began over the summer following a complaint about weed smells coming from his home at 4931 S. Field Way, according to the Denver District Attorney's Office.
The home belongs to Vanover, and he was arrested while driving by during a police search of the property, according to the DA. Vanover's charged with felony possession with intent to manufacture or distribute marijuana or marijuana concentrate, felony possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of marijuana or marijuana concentrate, the DA's office stated.
Some of those charges could result in sentences of several years imprisonment if he's convicted. Vanover has been released from custody on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond.
