New housing construction in the Denver metro is maintaining the same relative clip as last month. Once again, about 13 percent more new housing has been started in 2016 so far compared to 2015, according to census data.
Most of the new housing this year is single-family units, around 53 percent. But the biggest growth in Denver new housing is concentrated in multi-family housing. More specifically, housing in buildings with more than five units rose 22 percent.
But the buildings seem to contain fewer units overall. The number of buildings with five or more units rose 94 percent, a much bigger gain than the total number of units in said buildings.
Finally, for those who enjoy the national arm-wrestling contest for city supremacy: For 2016, the Denver metro is, yes, again, in the top 15 metros when it comes to new housing. Currently, the city is ranked 13th among nearly 400 metros.
