Colorado’s largest church will move next month from the Paramount Theatre to its own space in Denver’s University neighborhood.

Flatirons Community Church spent $1.25 million last month on 2700 S. Downing St. The first service at the building is set for Dec. 11, said Michael Koehn, chief financial officer of Flatirons.

“We’re currently meeting at our third campus at the Paramount in downtown Denver, and when our lease expired we decided to make a permanent commitment to the Denver area,” Koehn said.

Flatirons started in Lafayette in 1997 and later added locations in Genesee and Denver. Altogether membership includes somewhere between 15,000 to 17,5000 people and is growing by about 5 percent annually, Koehn said.

“We’re going to welcome everyone to our church. No matter who you are, you’re welcome to come. But we’re not going to shy away from teaching what’s in the Bible,” Koehn said.

The Denver group, which started September 2015, is the smallest of the three branches with about 500 people.

Koehn said the church hopes to grow its membership in Denver as well as other places in the Front Range.

“We would like to see, God willing, churches up and down the Front Range area from north of Fort Collins all the way to Highlands Ranch,” he said. “I don’t think we’ve ever had a quote-unquote growth strategy. We leave that to God.”
