Denver Broncos to meet with Vance Joseph today about head coaching job

Joseph will get the first shot to lay out his case why he should get the most appealing head coaching job in football, while the other two candidates — Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub — are busy preparing their teams for playoff games.

The Denver Broncos are set to meet with head coaching candidate Vance Joseph today at the team’s headquarters in Dove Valley. Joseph, the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator, is free to take meetings now that his team is eliminated from the playoffs.

Miami fell to Pittsburgh 30-12 last weekend. As Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio aptly put it, “Joseph may have won by losing.”

Joseph will get to lay out his case why he should get the most appealing head coaching job in football, while the other two candidates — Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub — are busy preparing their teams for playoff games.

Oddly enough, Miami losing could give Joseph a slight edge in the race. If other teams are aggressive in their pursuit of Joseph, that could force John Elway’s hand before he’s ready to show it.

Joseph, who was a reserve quarterback at Colorado from 1990-94, just finished his first season as an NFL defensive coordinator. The majority of his NFL experience has come as a defensive backs coach. He’s held that position with the 49ers, Texans and Bengals.

Now at 44 years old, he’s got a chance to land one of the best — and high pressure — head coaching jobs in the NFL.

9 News’ Mike Klis offered this Tuesday morning:

The search for Gary Kubiak’s successor could look clearer by the end of the day.
