A day after surrendering five goals on 26 shots, the Colorado Avalanche announced goaltender Semyon Varlamov will be out for the foreseeable future.
Varlamov is still dealing with a lingering groin injury and will be shut down until after the All-Star Break, head coach Jared Bednar told reporters Wednesday.
Varlamov’s absence will clear the way for backup Calvin Pickard to receive more playing time. San Antonio Rampage goalie Spencer Martin will also be called up as Varlamov recovers.
Varlamov is statistically having the worst season of his nine-year career. He’s allowing 3.38 goals per game and saving 89.8 percent of all shots.
The Avalanche have four games remaining until the All-Star break.
