Denver Health and Hospital Authority (DHHA) announced Friday that they’ve chosen Robin Wittenstein, Ed.D. FACHE, as finalist for the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Wittenstein currently acts as Executive leader at Penn State Health, where she oversees a network of more than a dozen clinical and academic affiliate hospitals in Pennsylvania. Prior to that, she served as president and CEO of University Hospital/University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey.

“She was the clear choice to lead Denver Health through a time of change in modern health care and is well positioned to ensure our organization fulfills our mission and continues to provide the best possible care for our patients,” Rus Heise, Chairman of the DHHA Board said in a statement.

Wittenstein was selected from a list of 20 candidates provided by a national search firm. DHHA reviewed several of the candidates and accepted input from the general public throughout the decision-making process.

“I am thrilled to be the finalist for the position of CEO,” Wittenstein said in a statement. “As an educator and a leader, I am committed to Denver Health’s safety net distinction and passionate about bringing together my experience in academic medicine and education for the benefit of the Denver community.”

DHHA has been searching for a new CEO since Dr. Arthur Gonzalez stepped down in June 2016. Dr. Bill Burman served as interim CEO during the transition.

The position will be finalized in two weeks.
