The third edition of Test Kitchen is happening tonight at the Black Box, 314 E. 13th Ave.
This week's showcase features production by Kruza Kid, Ryan Latour as Sosa and Michael Sonnefeldt as Son-X, and MC performances from Jimmy TwoShots, Kevin Cartoon, Porsheia Gillett as LPeez, David D-Stylz Gittings as D-Stylz, Kdot Swift, At'Eaze Ofe and Malcom Thomas as Prince P.

We talked to the event's mastermind, Ru Johnson, who said, “My goal is to elevate hip-hop culture in Denver. As a growing city, I feel that what makes this city so great — and I say this not as a native — is the true diversity of the people who live here and the way we take what exists and build it out to something big. … I don’t think that we get as much recognition for these artists who truly do it organically. So my goal for Test Kitchen is to put emerging artists in front of people who can make a difference.”
Doors are at 9 p.m. It's free if you're 21 or older and $5 if you're 18-20.
If laughs are more your speed tonight, you've got two solid options.
They're getting swanky tonight for 3 Course Comedy at the Deer Pile, 206 E 13th Ave. The theme of the night is "fancy foods," and the comedians are Emily Przekwas, Taylor Clark and Jason Keyes.
Food will be served at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30 p.m. And it's free.
Or you can head over to Ratio Beerworks, 2920 Larimer St., where the Doom Room is back with its Screen of Doom.
From 8-10 p.m., Nicole Conlan, Byron F. Graham, Cory Helie, Zach Welch, Andres Becerril and Meaghan Shaha will try to make you laugh while the Screen of Doom tries to throw them off balance.
This one's also totally free.
The Denver Botanic Gardens, 1007 York St., is hosting an opening reception for the latest Gates Garden Court Gallery exhibit featuring Carbondale-based artist Andrew Roberts-Gray.
The reception lasts from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Roberts-Gray will give a talk at 6:30 p.m. RSVP to [email protected].
And over at Black Shirt Brewing Co., 3719 Walnut St., they're having another pie and beer pairing night with the Long I Pie Shop.
Stop by from 6 to 9 p.m. and get four 5-ounce beers and four tastes of pie for $20. Here's the menu for tonight:
