The roof and back wall of a parking structure at Lakeside Amusement Park collapsed overnight after a man fleeing a traffic stop in Lakewood crashed his car into it.
Boulder Daily Camera editor Matt Sebastian first shared photos of the damage this morning.
According to a press release from the Lakewood Police Department, the crash was caused by a man fleeing a traffic stop.
The driver, 33-year-old Rudolph Valentino Garcia, fled after police tried to stop him when he was seen driving recklessly near West Colfax Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Police did not initiate a chase, as is policy. He crashed into the structure at Lakeside at around 11:40 p.m.
Garcia was taken to the hospital for his injuries and will be jailed upon his release on charges of felony eluding, felony DUI, driving as a habitual traffic offender and reckless driving.
"The guy was traveling at a high rate of speed down northbound Sheridan and lost control and struck a parking structure," said Mike Marchese with the Lakeside Police Department.
Staff at the park declined to discuss the incident.
