Soundgarden's Chris Cornell died on Wednesday night at age 52. He and his band were scheduled to play Denver's Fillmore Auditorium next Monday.
For at least a few hours, The Fillmore's marquee still listed the show, reflecting the shocking suddenness of the loss.
"Rest in Peace, Chris," read the email announcing the cancellation of the show. Live Nation will make refunds available at the point of purchase. The Fillmore has not announced any further plans for May 22.
Cornell had played a show at the Fox Theatre in Detroit just hours prior. His death is being investigated as a possible suicide, according to CNN.
Anyone struggling with suicidal ideation -- or who fears for a loved one -- should call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 for free and confidential help. Hotlines specific to Colorado are listed here.
By noon, the marquee carried a new message.
