This fall, Harkins Theatres will open its newest Colorado cinema and bring movies back to the site of the Landmark Theatre Olde Town 14.
Earlier this month, a company spokeswoman said that there was no official opening date. But as of this weekend, a very large banner announced that the Harkins Arvada 14 would open fall 2017.
The theater will feature "Nathan’s Famous mini corn dogs, White Castle cheeseburgers, Oreo churros and much more," according to the Arvada Economic Development Association. They're also upgrading seats and projectors.
What remains to be seen is if the theater will feature foreign and independent films, as the Landmark did. Either way, let's all take a second to acknowledge that Arvada will soon have a hotel and a movie theater and a brewery named for a much larger neighboring city. Big time.
The city of Arvada will contribute about $500,000 toward the roughly $11 million renovation, as Shanna Fortier reported for the Arvada Press.
BTW, I've never been to Harkins, but at least one random dude likes them. "I'm sure they come frozen, but they make them right - meat on the grill, bun in a steamer, served in the little cardboard 'crave' boxes," a casual reviewer notes.
We may be called Denverite, but I live in Arvada. Keep up on news about both cities with our newsletter.
