Mayor Michael Hancock has already found someone to be the city's new chief coordinator of the major redevelopment projects in River North, Globeville and Elyria-Swansea.
Hancock named former City Council member Timothy Sandos as executive director of the North Denver Cornerstone Collaborative on Friday. Earlier this month, the current head of the organization, Anna Jones, announced she was resigning as of July 3.
Jones served a little over a year with the NDCC and said she was leaving to focus on her family, enjoy the summer with her teenage sons and take her first professional hiatus in more than 20 years.
The NDCC was created in 2013 to align the planning and implementation of six major projects in North Denver: Brighton Boulevard improvements; Interstate 70 expansion; National Western Center expansion; neighborhood plans for Globeville, Elyria and Swansea; River North improvements and RTD station developments.
"North Denver continues to grow, and Tim, along with the rest of the NDCC team, are well-equipped to listen, help solve for the community’s needs and deliver great projects that provide for the local neighborhoods," Hancock said in a statement.
Sandos will step into the lead role of the collaborative Monday, according to a news release. He served as an at-large councilman from 1989 to 1993. Before that, Sandos was an executive assistant to former Denver Mayor Federico Peña.
More recently, Sandos has worked as a consultant with Sandos Professional Services. In that position, he advises nonprofits and businesses on affordable housing and nonprofit business development. He also has a director position with the Westminster credit repair company National Credit Care.
Hancock said he's confident Sandos' experience in the public and private sectors will ensure the six projects in northeast Denver happen in cooperation with the residents and businesses.
“I am grateful to Mayor Hancock for giving me the opportunity to be a part of an effort to generate opportunities for north Denver communities and all of Denver,” Sandos said in a statement. “This office has seen strong leadership thus far, and the results have been significant. I look forward to further advancing the vision and maximizing the delivery of projects to provide real amenities to the community.”
