Mitchell Henry, former tight end for the Broncos and Packers, has died.
The 24-year-old was battling acute myeloid leukemia.
After Henry was released from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad in November, he went home to Kentucky, where he went to the hospital with pain in his shoulder, according to ESPN. The doctors found a mass in his chest, and he began chemotherapy.
Henry arrived in the NFL as a free agent in 2015 and played two games for the Broncos in his rookie season.
He spent his college career at Western Kentucky. The team released a statement Friday, in which Director of Athletics Todd Stewart said, "Mitchell was as committed to his teammates, his University, his friends and his family as anyone you will ever find, and we were so fortunate to have him as part of our Hilltopper family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his lovely wife Madison, and all of those who were blessed to have known Mitchell."
