Bennet: Trump’s ‘fake news’-fueled election commission should be disbanded

The thousands of voters in Colorado who have withdrawn their voter registration are evidence that the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity is undermining rather than increasing confidence in American elections, Sen. Michael Bennet said in a letter to the commission's head.

For this reason, the commission should be disbanded, Bennet wrote.

"This Commission was formed as the result of delusion, conspiracy theories and truly 'fake news,' but it is having a very real and dramatically chilling effect on voter participation," Colorado's Democratic senator wrote. "The stated purpose of the Commission is 'to increase the American people's confidence in the integrity of our elections systems.' Yet, the entire premise for its origination has zero basis in any peer-reviewed study or analysis."

"Rather than waste taxpayer resources indulging invented claims of 'serious voter fraud,' voters being bused into New Hampshire, and 'millions of "illegal" votes, we should take meaningful steps to address voter suppression and increase voter participation," he continued. "And we should act on the unanimous assessment of our intelligence agencies that Russia undertook blatant and shocking measures to influence the outcome of our election."

"Given the spike in these registration withdrawals, I request that you immediately end the Commission and describe how you intend to reverse the damage that it has already caused in my state," Bennet concluded.

Is this letter going to have an impact? As noted by Colorado Politics, Kris Kobach, the Kansas secretary of state who is heading up the commission, told Breitbart News he believes the people who withdrew their registration might be felons or non-citizens who were illegally registered. That, or they might be engaged in a "political stunt."
