Most Broncos fans have their eyes on the battle between Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch for the starting QB job. One less heralded positional battle is the competition that will determine who return punts for Denver.
Rookie wideouts Carlos Henderson, a third-round pick, and Isaiah McKenzie, a fifth-round pick, are candidates for the job. So is second-year receiver Kalif Raymond. But is it possible a defensive player — one who's captured a Super Bowl MVP before — beats out all of them?
Well, no. Players who are a shoo-in for double-digit sack numbers don't return punts, no matter how athletic they are. But it sure would be fun to see Von Miller take a crack at it in a game situation.
Miller messed around and fielded punts on day two of Broncos training camp Friday. He looked smooth doing it — especially for a linebacker.
The thought of Miller running people over with a full head of steam is a fun one. I would curl into a ball and roll off the field if I saw a man that big and fast headed toward me.
Obviously, the Broncos would never let him try to return punts against anyone but air; he's just too valuable making offensive linemen look silly:
Von Miller, punt returner, would be fun though.
