Next week, Denver will get two lanes that are reserved for buses only, 24 hours per day. They will also get new red paint markings which the city will study over the next year.
Denver Public Works will monitor whether the blocky red paint improves efficiency and keeps cars out of the lane in a year-long study, the agency said.
Of course, the city will also be keeping an eye on transit and traffic operations in the corridor to inform future transit enhancements.
South Broadway already has a dedicated bus lane of sorts -- but it's only restricted during peak travel times, like when people are coming to and from work. This change means that the bus lane will always be in effect. Cars will only be allowed into the bus lane to make right turns.
RTD also is making tweaks to service along the route to improve reliability and travel time, according to DPW.
The new bus-only lanes will run from 17th Avenue to Exposition on Broadway and from 6th Avenue to 14th Avenue on Lincoln. That looks like this:
