The new president of Volunteers of America Colorado comes from another faith-based organization with a similar mission.

In a news release Wednesday, Volunteers of America Colorado said its new president and CEO is David K. Schunk, who since 2011 has been chief financial officer at the Denver Rescue Mission. Schunk is expected to take up his new position Nov. 7.

Schunk succeeds Dianna Kunz, who is retiring after 45 years with Volunteers of America.

“We are lucky to have found an individual with a strong set of leadership skills as well as a shared passion for service to the individuals and families served by Volunteers of America,” Kunz said in a statement.

“It’s been the best job ever,” Kunz told Denverite Thursday, saying  she would continue as a volunteer with her organization.

Both Volunteers of America and the Denver Rescue Mission provide shelter and other services for people experiencing homelessness.
