Preparations for the twenty-third annual annual Xicano Independent Filmmakers' Festival (XIFF) are underway, and the festival's host, Su Teatro, is looking for submissions from Chicanx and Latin American filmmakers.
A press release from Su Teatro called for film submissions from filmmakers who tell authentic, moving stories that speak to "the experience of the Latinx World." Su Teatro is particularly interested in emerging talent, and encourages filmmakers of all ages and skill levels to submit their work. Submissions will be considered by a board of Su Teatro staff and board members, and selections will be finalized by the end of February.
XicanIndie FilmFest is an annual four-day film fest celebrating Chicanx and Latinx filmmakers and has traditionally also hosted screenings year-round at Su Teatro.
The festival includes an award ceremony to honor outstanding films and their creators. Previous XIFFs have hosted visiting filmmakers and artists like Benjamin Bratt, Richard Montoya, Jesse Borrego and Esai Morales.
The 2021 XIFF will take place this April. It's not yet clear what the festival will look like, due to pandemic uncertainties, but Su Teatro plans to release more information in March.
The deadline for submission is Monday, Feb. 8, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MST. For more info, contact [email protected].
