Federal Boulevard, that mighty, deadly, travel artery on Denver's west side, is going under the knife starting later this week and lasting all the way through November.

But on the other side of that, the road, from Colfax Avenue to Interstate 70, will have a newly laid 2.5-inch layer of asphalt and 114 new ADA-compliant curb ramps.

"While traffic delays are expected during construction, the long term benefits of this project will upgrade the travel experience for everyone," reads a Colorado Department of Transportation press release. "Upon project completion, this highly traveled stretch of Federal Boulevard located in the City and County of Denver will have smoother and safer driving conditions as well as improved sidewalk accessibility."

The project will not, however, repair or build new sidewalks along the road. (Denver voters may have a chance to fund city-wide sidewalk repairs and construction later this year, though!)

Curb ramp replacement work will happen during daylight hours and last through August, requiring some lane closures. More disruptive closures will be needed for the resurfacing part of the job, which will start in August, but that will happen during evening and overnight hours.

The project costs $5 million. More details are on CDOT's website.
