According to Clark, several suspects were driving north on Verbena when they stopped, exited their vehicle and opened fire at a group of people standing near the intersection at East Colfax. More than six gun shots were reported.

Allen Dawkins, 31, was fatally shot in the incident, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

A motive behind the shooting wasn't immediately released. It's also unclear whether Martinez has an attorney to speak on his behalf. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
