The lineup for Film on the Rocks has been announced. Here’s what to watch and when

You know summer in Colorado is imminent when the lineup for the season's Film on the Rocks is announced.

Kicking off Monday, June 12, the summer series is an opportunity to enjoy live performances and classic films under the stars at the iconic Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre.

Tickets for the five-event season go on sale April 28 at 10 a.m. at denverfilm.org. Tickets are $20 per show for general admission and $35 for VIP reserved seating.

Each film will be accompanied by pre-show entertainment starting at 7 p.m., followed by the film presentation at 8:30 p.m.

Here are the movies for this year's summer lineup:

Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Monday, June 12

In the 1981 classic starring Harrison Ford, Dr. Indiana Jones is hired by the U.S. Government to find the Ark of the Covenant, believed to hold the Ten Commandments. However, Hitler's Nazi agents are also after the ark, leading to a globetrotting quest to possibly save the world.

This film will feature a pre-performance by Pathfinder and power pop/garage rock project The Mañanas.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Monday, June 19

The 2022 Marvel film, starring Letitia Wright, is the story of Wakanda's fight to protect their nation from Namor, ruler of the underwater kingdom known as Talokan, after King T'Challa's death.

This film will feature a pre-performance by Aquile.

Top Gun: Maverick

Monday, July 10

The 2022 Top Gun comeback, starring Tom Cruise, comes after the main character served more than 30 years as one of the Navy's top aviators. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is training a detachment of Top Gun graduates when an encounter leads to a new mission for the veteran pilot.

This film will feature a pre-performance by Rocket Surgeons.

Mamma Mia!

Monday, July 24

The 2008 musical, starring Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, is celebrating its 15th Anniversary as one of the ultimate romantic-comedy performances.

This film will feature a pre-performance by Claire Heywood.

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi

Monday, August 21

The 1983 film set in a galaxy far, far away, starring Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, is celebrating its 40th Anniversary since its release.

Pre-show entertainment for this film has not yet been announced.
