Denver's busy this week with the inaugural Cities Summit of the Americas taking place -- and inspiring a pop-up gallery featuring several artists representative of the Americas and Caribbean. That's going on for the rest of the week, but if you're more in the mood for music, comics and space-themed pastries, read on.
Here are four cool things to do around the city today and the rest of the week.
Fábrica de Arte Américas at The Slate Hotel warehouse
Date: April 26 - 30
Location: 1250 Welton St.
The cultural warehouse, curated and produced by Fábrica de Arte to take place during this year's Cities Summit of the Americas, will have live music, DJ sets, curated cocktails, dance performances, fashion shows, visual arts and a lineup of food trucks.
Mexico's renown Caravana Americana will host a show every day featuring 25 of the best emerging and established designers in Latin America, and visitors will be able to shop their styles.
Check out the musical lineup here. Certain areas of the warehouse will be free to explore, while other performance areas will require tickets, starting at $10 or a $30 weekend-long pass.
Brionne Aigne & Dax Oliver at The Orchid
Date: Friday, April 28, 6 p.m.
Location: 1448 Market St.
Denver' new music venue, The Orchid, is a 1920's-style jazz club with a bar area, main dining room, a stage room and a rooftop patio. Opening night will be this Friday and it will feature a performance by Denver-based Brionne Aigné, a Berklee College of Music graduate and a finalist on BET's "The Next Big Thing."
Denver Comics and Art Festival at Town Hall Collaborative
Date: Saturday, April 29, 11 to 4 p.m.
Location: 525 Santa Fe Dr.
The first annual Denver Comics and Arts Festival (DeCAF), hosted by Colorado Comics Collective, will take place this weekend. The event will feature more than 25 Colorado vendors such as realistic and fantastical creator Zoë LeDonne, cyberpunk, sci-fi and concept artist Don Austin and comic book illustrator, game artist and graphic designer Derek Knierim among many others.
The free event will also feature vendors such as Odd Ones Press and is PRESS who will be showcasing some of their works as well.
Black Box Bakery at the Edgewater Public Market
Location: 5505 W. 20th Ave, Edgewater, CO. 80214
Formerly located in Denver, the Black Box Bakery reopened at the Edgewater Public Market just west of Sloan's Lake in late March. Among the bakery's offerings are an "out of this world" good Matcha UFO (described as croissant flan tart topped with whipped rose ganache) and a jam-filled blueberry lavender croissant.
The bakery is open Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the weekends.
