The 2023 Women's World Cup begins this Thursday, July 20.
The No. 1-ranked U.S. Women's National Team is on a quest for a three-peat, something that's never been done before.
Led by 34-year-old veteran superstar forward Alex Morgan, a member of the 2015 and 2019 World Cup-winning teams, the USWNT could secure its fifth title and extend its reign as the most decorated national women's team in the world.
Of the 23 players on this year's roster headed to Australia and New Zealand, 14 have never played in a World Cup.
Among them is young star and Colorado's own, Sophia Smith, whose parents recently sat for an interview with Colorado Matters. The Portland Thorns FC forward was last year's U.S. Soccer Player of the Year and the National Women's Soccer League's Most Valuable Player.
