Six places to eat in and around Denver this Labor Day weekend

It's a long weekend and you're probably looking forward to the time off with friends and family. Or if you're like me, some much needed alone time. If you haven't yet made plans, or if you'll be avoiding the labor (Ha!) of cooking something up in your own kitchen, consider these food options for Labor Day weekend.

From food trucks on Welton, a bottomless mimosa brunch before a Rockies game, free ice cream scoops for the kiddos or roasted pig plate, here are places you could consider checking out this weekend:

Food Trucks at Five Points Flavor

Date: Sept. 1-3, 2-10 p.m.

Location: 2821 Welton St.

Throughout the weekend starting at 2 p.m. visitors can try out any of the six food trucks that will be parked on Welton. There will also be cocktails and music.

Bottomless Mimosas Brunch at ViewHouse Ballpark

Date: Sept. 2-4

2015 Market St.

The popular Ballpark restaurant will be offering Labor Day specials throughout the weekend, including a bottomless mimosas brunch each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Saturday, September 2 they will also be hosting a CU Boulder Watch Party for the highly anticipated first game of Coach Deion Sanders tenure.

On Sunday, September 3 the restaurant will host a hot dog eating contest and will offer giveaways and live music that will run from 2 to 6 p.m.

If you wish to catch a Rockies game down the street, the team will host the Toronto Blue Jays on the following days:

Saturday, Sept. 2 at 6:10 p.m. 

Sunday, Sept. 3 at 1:10 p.m. 

Colorado Sake Five-Year Anniversary

Date: Sunday, Sept. 3

Location: 3559 Larimer St.

The RiNo sake brewery and tasting room will be celebrating its 5th anniversary at its location by offering a one year aged 1801 Junmai Daiginjo for the celebration. There will also be a food truck serving Izakaya style Japanese bites as well as other special cocktails and sakes available on tap.

Pig Roast at Rare Bird Denver

Date: Sept. 3-4

Location: 245 Columbine St.

The new rooftop bar atop the Halcyon hotel in Cherry Creek will be offering a specialty menu by Chef Dan that consists of a Whole Roasted Pig plate served with cracklings, grilled pineapple, cornbread, creamy coleslaw and corn on the cob. The bar will also have live music both days.

Free Ice Cream for Kids at American Elm

Date: Every Sunday in September

Location: 4132 W. 38th Ave.

The West Highland restaurant has partnered with Little Man Ice Cream for special ice cream socials every Sunday in September from 2 to 4 p.m.

Kids can get free scoops of ice cream and adults can get $14 "boozy shakes" with $2 of each shake will go towards the Colorado Restaurant Association Angel Relief Fund.

Lebanese and Middle Eastern Food Festival

Date: Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023

Location: 2301 Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO. 80214

The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and will offer live music, cultural dance lessons, hookah lounges, henna and face paintings and a lineup of food representing Lebanese and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Food includes beef and chicken shawarma wraps, falafel, baba ghanouj, hummus, kibbeh and sweet desserts such as cheese knafeh, baklava and more. Click here to see the full menu.

Colorado State Fair

Date: Runs through Sept. 4

Location: 1001 Beulah Ave., Pueblo, CO. 81004

The Colorado State Fair in Pueblo began on Aug. 25 and has featured a lineup of horse shows, carnival rides, rodeos, monster trucks rallies and lots of good food.

Think giant turkey legs, pulled pork nachos, deep-fried Oreos, Mexican street corn, bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers and more. On Fridays, select food vendors will offer items for $5 until 5 p.m. If you're able to make the trip down South, it might be worth a quick weekend getaway.
