Authorities in Aurora are investigating the accidental death of a man early Thursday morning involving fireworks.

Multiple people reported hearing an explosion at Grandview Dog Park near Quincy Reservoir, according to Aurora police. Officers found a man who had fatal injuries around 1 a.m.

The man was 42 years old and from Strausburg. He traveled with two people to Aurora to visit food and drink businesses before heading to the dog park with several large, commercial-grade fireworks. Police are unsure if the fireworks were homemade or purchased out of state.

When the man lit one of the fireworks, it exploded and caused fatal injuries. No other injuries or damage to the area were reported.

Authorities said no other fireworks were found at the man's home in Strasburg and there was no evidence of the man making explosives.

The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office will identify the man.
