The effects of the horrific Sept. 11 bus crash at Denver International Airport are still reverberating for Legacy High School and its community.
The crash, in which a bus full of athletes hit a pillar, left driver Kari Chopper dead and three coaches seriously injured.
Now two of those coaches, Wayne Voorhees and Kyle Rider, have been released from the hospital; a third, Matt Kroupa continues to receive medical care at the hospital, according to Adams 12 Five Star Schools.
Meanwhile, Chopper's friends say that her family needs help. The family had lost their home in Thornton a few months before Kari Chopper's death, according to family friend Jenna Rodgers.
"They have been living with relatives ever since, and as you can imagine, on top of the pain of losing their mother, having no space of their own makes it that much more difficult," she wrote in an update to an ongoing fundraiser. (I've spoken to both her and Chopper's widower and confirmed the validity of the fundraiser.)
So far, donations have raised about $28,000 for the family, but the costs for raising four teenage children are significant, Rodgers writes.
