The Regional will start serving all-American comfort food at Avanti on July 19

And by all-American, we mean clam chowder or green chili. All kinds of American.

The definition of comfort food varies from person to person, depending on where you're from and who raised you.

Maybe it's shrimp and grits. Maybe it's a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs. Maybe it's quinoa salad, because Boulder vegans need comfort food, too, man.

Kevin Grossi knows that, which is why the chef and owner of The Regional — opening in Avanti Food & Beverage on July 19 — will serve dishes that remind anyone of home. That includes New England clam chowder, raw and charbroiled oysters, Cobb salad, green chili and seasonal dishes, according to a press release.

Everything on the main menu will cost $10 or less and ingredients will be locally sourced when possible.

In the weeks leading up to The Regional's opening, Grossi is taking a road trip to learn what foods soothe souls from the southeast to the heartland. He'll visit Asheville (N.C), Atlanta, Cedar Rapids (Iowa), Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit, Grand Rapids (Mich.), Jackson (Miss.), Kansas City, Louisville (Ky.), Memphis, Nashville and more.

No word yet on whether there will be comfort food for Californians, but we assume Grossi's restaurant is not also an In 'N' Out.

The Regional is replacing PoCo Toteria and will be on the first floor at Avanti, 3200 Pecos St.
