Earlier reports said that Keystone Resort had “indefinitely” delayed its opening, which scared the snowballs out of a lot of riders. Now it’s looking more definite… possibly.

The Vail-owned mountain announced that it would open next Friday, Nov. 18. Copper Mountain also is hoping for the 18th. Meanwhile, Breckenridge Ski Resort expects to follow “soon after.”

Winter Park, meanwhile, is still posting a Wednesday, Nov. 16 opening date. (Update: Nov. 23 for Winter Park now.) We’re getting quite late in the season for some of these mountains, but they’re hoping some incoming weather will break the pattern.

“Temperatures are indeed beginning to trend in our favor and Keystone’s mountain operations team was able to continue snowmaking operations again last night and into this morning,” said Mike Goar, Keystone’s chief operating officer, in a written release.

The resort also quoted OpenSnow.com meteorologist Joel Gratz, who apparently expects decreasing temperatures later next week, followed by a potential storm around next Thursday, Nov. 17. Copper also cited cooling temperatures with some optimism.

That lines up with what we’re hearing from Weather5280, based on fancy international weather models. The National Weather Service is still showing highs in the 50s into next week for the mountains, but The Weather Channel does predict a 20-degree drop around next Thursday.

We shall see.
