Only one out of five Coloradans plan to venture out Black Friday into stores full of incessant Christmas music and deal-hungry shoppers, according to a new survey.

Elevations Credit Union asked more than 300 Coloradans about their plans for the national shopping holiday. The Boulder-based banking institution reported Monday that residents of all ages are taking a pass on Black Friday.

That finding contrasts with one from the National Retail Federation. Of the shoppers they surveyed, 74 percent planned to participate in Black Friday.

“Millennials continue to drive the trend of hitting the stores – both on their feet and online — as soon as the turkey is finished,” analyst Pam Goodfellow said in a release.

Young adults are also expected reach into their pockets for Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

“For many millennials, every Thanksgiving weekend they can remember has involved hopping online to find the best deals,” Goodfellow said. “For this group, it’s more than just a weekend of good deals, it’s a holiday tradition.”

Altogether 59 percent of Americans — an estimated 137.4 million people — are planning to or considering shopping during Thanksgiving weekend, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey.
