It’s almost the New Year, have you put much thought into your 2017 resolutions? Local tech Chief Information Officers have, and they’ve laid down a wish list of qualities they’d like to see in candidates interviewing for positions in 2017.
According to the results of a survey published by Robert Half Technology, Denver area employers will be actively hiring at the beginning of 2017.
“The first few months of the year are typically some of the busiest for tech hiring.” Andrew Butkus, division director for Robert Half Technology, said in a statement. “Toward the beginning of the year, budgets have been approved, projects are getting off the ground and companies need to fill open roles.”
Amidst concerns about cybersecurity, tech CIOS are looking for new employees in information technology. About 67 percent of those surveyed will be hiring for pre-existing IT roles, with about 18 percent hiring to fill new positions added to their IT departments.
But about 64 percent of local CIOs say recruiting adequately skilled IT workers can be difficult. And with the blossoming startup scene in Colorado, Butkus said skilled IT and tech consultants will be in high demand next year.
Here are the skills CIOs are looking for in 2017, plus the percentage of demand:
- Network administration, 48 percent
- Desktop support, 44 percent
- Database management, 41 percent
“Data management is the big driver for hiring right now, and we’re seeing high demand for professionals who can build data platforms, reports, warehouses and databases,” Butkus said in a statement.
To compile the survey, Robert Half asked more than 2,500 CIOs in markets across the nation to provide a six month hiring outlook. CIO responses were weighted based on number of employees per company.
