The Colorado Avalanche are nearly halfway through the 2016 season.
Calling their body of work so far an unmitigated disaster might be putting it lightly. Colorado (13-25-1) is last in points (27), goal differential (-51), goals scored per game (2.03) and goals allowed per game (3.31).
The Feb. 28 trade deadline is about a month and a half out. Such an abysmal 2016 has left many to wonder which Avalanche players, if any, the team could cut bait with between now and then.
According to Terry Frei and Mike Chambers of the Denver Post, don't rule out anyone being moved.
"Everybody on this team is being shopped," Frei said on the Post's Avalanche podcast that went out Tuesday.
The conversation he and Chambers had suggested that no player on this Avalanche team is a mortal lock to be on it after Feb. 28. That includes members of the core such as Matt Duchene and Nathan MacKinnon as well as fringe pieces like veteran Jarome Iginla, who's making $5,333,333 this season, and Francois Beauchemin, who's making $4.5 million.
"If there's a bucket of pucks over here, you know the Colorado Avalanche would take that for Francois Beauchemin right now," Frei joked.
Colorado returns to action against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at the Pepsi Center.
