Good morning, good people. This week is just kind of rolling into motion -- no huge breaking news yet today, so I've grabbed a few stories from around Colorado that caught my interest. Here they are.
The opiate crisis is real:
Thirty-one deaths were connected to heroin in Denver last year, according to preliminary data. That's more opiate deaths than were reported for all of Colorado in 2001. It's worth noting that in Denver the death toll has largely plateaued over the last few years, as Michael Roberts reports. (Westword)
People have started using their right to die:
Several terminally ill people have received prescriptions for lethal self-administered drugs in Colorado. It may not be easy, though: Dozens of Catholic hospitals have said they won't comply with the law, as Electa Draper reports. (Colorado Independent)
Go to the library:
For any number of reasons, really, but especially to check out their new recording studio space, which gives access to editing software, hardware to convert old media and more. (Denverite)
Dispensary behind the LoDo King Soopers:
Green Solution is building a 4,000-square-foot dispensary at 1995 Wewatta Street, behind the King Soopers and Elan apartments, as Burl Rolett reports. Looks like it will be right next to this funky old building I wrote about. (BusinessDen, Denverite)
