The top-ranked Pioneers advanced to the semifinals with relative ease. They beat Michigan Tech and Penn State by a combined score of 11-5 in the regional rounds.
Notre Dame, which made it out of the Northeast Region despite being the lowest seed, won a pair of 3-2 games to get to the semifinals. The other semifinals game is between Harvard and Minnesota-Duluth.
The Pioneers advanced to the Frozen Four last year before losing to eventual national champion North Dakota. They’ll try to qualify for their first championship game under Jim Montgomery, who this week was named the college hockey coach of the year.
The game, which is being played at the United Center in Chicago, starts at 7:30 p.m. You can watch it on ESPN 2.
Denver is trying to make it to its first championship game since 2005.
