Congressman Jared Polis announced Sunday that he would like to be Colorado’s next Governor.

In a video posted to his website, the Boulder Democrat laid out his vision for the state. Among the goals: achieve 100 percent renewable energy by 2040 and provide free full-day kindergarten and preschool in every community across our state.

“As governor, I’ll build a winning coalition within two years to finally bring free full day Kindergarten and preschool to every community across our state,” he promised.

On Monday, Polis will continue to spread word of his candidacy with planned stops in Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Denver, and Boulder.

With Polis’ announcement, the field of gubernatorial candidates continues to grow.

In his primary, Polis be running against fellow Democrats including Congressman Ed Perlmutter and former state Sen. Mike Johnston, among others. In the Republican field, District Attorney George Brauchler, best known for prosecuting the Aurora theater shooting trial, has announced his candidacy as well.
