A little more than a month ago, we learned that the Denver hockey team’s top two points leaders, Troy Terry and Henrik Borgstrom, were coming back to school. On Tuesday, a report indicated that the Pioneers’ No. 3 points man, Dylan Gambrell, will also return to play at least one more season of college hockey.

DU head coach Jim Montgomery told the Denver Post on Tuesday that Gambrell is returning for his junior year.

“We’re getting an All-American — an elite college-hockey player — back,” Montgomery said, according to the Post.

The announcement has DU, which captured its eighth national title in in April, looking loaded for a repeat run. Terry, Borgstrom and Gambrell combined for 57 goals and 73 assists in 2016-17.

All three had chances to jump to the professional level this offseason. The Anaheim Ducks took Terry in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft. In 2016, the Florida Panthers took Borgstrom in the first round, and the San Jose Sharks took Gambrell in the second round.

But Terry and Borgstrom decided to return for their respective junior and sophomore seasons. And now it sounds like Gambrell is coming back for his junior year as well.

“I love the people I work with and for,” Montgomery said last month. “I love my staff, and I love the student-athletes I get to work with Denver. We’re spoiled with the group that’s coming back to Denver next year.”
