The owners of The Kennedy Station in way southeast Denver aren't opening the city's latest rooftop, cocktail or speakeasy spot.

And the Denver area men aren't shooting to add a dark, dive bar where parents would never take children.

The Kennedy Station owners, Chris Robinson and Joe Tatarka, are shooting to open "a classic American sports bar" for workers and families near South Havana Street and East Dartmouth Avenue. The bar going into the strip mall at 10890 E. Dartmouth Ave. is expected to open in early January, general manager Taylor Roy said Tuesday.

Kennedy Station will replace Doc's Pub and Grill. The former home of the "Crackburger" closed in December 2015. The new sports bar plans to feature diamond-plated walls, 16 beer taps, a TouchTunes jukebox, pool table and patio seating, projection screen and an area for live music.

Some of the bars being added to River North, South Broadway, Highland and other neighborhoods in Denver are the perfect backdrop for a twenty-something-year-old's Instagram post. Roy, who previously worked in fine dining establishments, said they are going for a different clientele.

"A lot of new bars come in and they fail in three years when they can't afford their rent anymore," Roy said.

He doesn't think Kennedy Station will have that problem. If he's right, he said, the owners are looking to add three more locations in the next year.
